Turning down the volume on pain.

Mind-Body Therapy for Chronic Pain & Illness

Pain and illness can make you feel like your body has turned against you—changing your plans, impacting your identity, and stealing your hope. At the Ogden Center for Change, we believe your pain is real and that there is a path to living with more ease and peace in your body, no matter your condition.

Pain is a protective signal produced by the brain. When we’re hurt, it’s the brain’s job to warn us and keep us safe. Sometimes the brain’s alarm system gets stuck on high and keeps firing pain signals long after an injury has healed, or even without injury or illness at all. This doesn’t mean the pain is imagined. It means the brain is predicting danger when it no longer needs to.

We use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for chronic pain, Pain Reprocessing Therapy, and other mindfulness-based mind-body approaches. Together, these help you manage pain and illness and can retrain the brain’s neural pathways, often allowing us to “turn down the volume” on the experience of pain. We help you explore the complicated ways personality, trauma, beliefs, and thoughts shape your experience of pain, and mindfully shift your relationship with your body so it no longer feels like the enemy.
